Description: This rare hand colored map is a copper plate engraving, dating to 1855 by the well known 19th century American Mapmaker Colton. It is a representation of Norway and Sweden. This map is in fine condition. Political boundaries as well as major rivers, territories, and counties are carefully labeled. All major cities, bodies of water, rivers, mountains, islands, and sub regions are labeled. Most major national and local political distinctions are outlined and defined in detail. This stunning map is a steel plate lithograph. Each map had a compelling decorative border that is distinctive of Coltons Maps. These fine maps were once part of the 1855 Coltons General Atlas. The stunning maps from this atlas are highly desirable due to the elaborate precise detail and careful craftsmanship. Maps are great gifts and perfect decorative additions to any home or office. They are compelling objects that instantly grab peoples attention and transport them to a different time and place. Owning an antique map is much like owning a window into the past. An antique map can be a veritable passage back in time, allowing one to imagine the world much as the mapmaker himself did 100, 200 or even 300 years ago!
