Description:
This is a very fine mid 19th century Old Paris High style porcelain round platter and gravy boat in the Rococo Revival style. This kind of ornate Paris porcelain was a big part of 19th century Southern culture and used in the fine dinning rooms of plantation homes and townhouses in the deep South from Mobile Alabama to New Orleans Louisiana and Up to Natchez Mississippi, Where lots of it can still be seen today. The beautiful round platter has nice scalloped edges with a Burgundy red painted band with outer edge of gold gilt Rococo scrolls and the aristocratic family's shield of a black dog with gold gilt fancy scrip monogram under the shield. The Rococo boat shaped gravy boat also has the same shield and monogram with ornate acanthus leaf handles highlighted in gold gilt. The platter is 12" and the gravy boat is 11" x 8". Condition: One handle on gravy boat has hair lines and a small chip.
