Description:
Silver mounted scent or perfume. It is a thinly blown white glass with enamel overlay consisting of floral and foliate decoration resembling that found on Imari pattern english porcelain. Magenta leaves and with gilded details, support Columbine-like flowers of blue with pale yellow, small orange flowers and blue centers. The shoulders of the bottle are enameled brown with traces of the original gilded decoration. The sterling silver screw on has a threaded silver collar fitted to the neck of the bottle. There is no sign that there was a glass stopper, so this probably had a cork stopper held in place with the cap. This bottle also could have been used as a snuff botle. MARKS: The silver cap has English hallmarks; the lion passant for sterling, the Birmingham anchor and the date letter for 1836-37, 1944-45 or 1847-48. 2 3/4" x 2". The silver shows a little sign of aging, very little. No repairs or damage.
