Description:
This is a wonderful item of Americana with documented provence to the original maker born 1780, New England. The trapunto, or wedding quilt, measures 88" x 107" with a hand woven linen back and cotton counterpane top exhibiting the finest ground stitching with an overall feather and floral decoration with a large central urn. The quilt was professionally cleaned and restored in 2006 by a historic textile conservator. For 200 years old, the condition would be considered good, not excellent. There is a small border area of some spot staining, and minute holes which appear to be cinder specs. It was suggested by a quilt appraiser to leave these few little holes alone. The origin of this quilt is Norwich, Conn. with a wonderful descending history of notable people. Please contact for further photos and detailed specifics regarding process and technique utilized for cleaning. information
