Description:
Handpainted enamel metal mounted porcelain perfume / scent bottle chatelaine with chain and
finger ring. Portrait of a child shepherd in flower / garden setting. Made in England, early 19th
century.
Measures a little under 3 1/4inches in height. Diameter is approx 2 1/4inches.
Outstanding handpainted enamel: birds in a woody landscape, surrounded by beautiful roses /
carnations and foliage. Long-tailed and fantastically plumed and coloured exotic birds. The other
side has a young shepherd boy, possibly a religious figure or a child in heaven, depicted
floating on clouds and praying.
Red glass insert with mechanical cover, engraved "Ortner & houle St James Street, London. Set in
gold-coloured metal with chain and finger ring. No hallmarks.
Condition is good. On the left hand, near the roses, if you look very closely, you will see a
negligible flaw where the porcelain is held by the metal.
