Letter from Jonas Fuller of the 141st Pennsylvania Infantry, Company A. Accompanied by cover. Ink letter datelined ""Camp near Washington / Sunday the 14 1862,"" reads in part: "".We are moved around from one place to another more than the nine months men and I begin to wish I was a nine months man and I guess there is more than I wish the same thing. I went to meating this morning and when meating was out we got orders to sweepe ouer streets and fix for meating in ouer headquarters. Rileys killed one ouer seargent at Harrisburge, he was take sick and lefte at Washington and he died before our Company new whare he was and the meating is his funrel surman which is to be preach this evening.We marched from near Fairfax Semenery to whare we are now. We can see the Capitol and the Potomack and I guess you would be as much disappointed as I am. We can see vesels sailing up and down the river and I guess Virginia is the same it is as unlevel as Bradford, but thas some fine places, but this war has spoiled all the fence and when you come across a fine built house it look like a barn in an open lot, no fence what ever and white folks as scarce as fences is and there is none at al and the nigger, damum, if I must say it; for when you meat one he wil show the white of his eye quite as much as to say you white folks cant do that sir."" Jonas Fuller mustered into Company A on 18 August 1862 and died at Leesburg, Virginia on 2 November 1863. Before his death, Fuller saw action with the 141st Pennsylvania at Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Peach Orchard. 3pp. letter measures 5"" x 8"".
