Description: 4pp. letter from Jonas Fuller of the 141st Pennsylvania Infantry, Company A. Pencil letter datelined ""Camp Watkins VA Sept the 1 1862,"" reads in part: "".Thursday we received orders to be up early so we could march down to Harresburge and get ower armes and we did so and got back by 11 oclock. The guns we got are rebel guns that wer capturd and bayonets to. We struck tents after diner and waited til five oclock and marched down to the cars and we got a board and started for Dixie and we went like some old giant for in every olde house you would see shirt tails and news papers waveing until dark when things went rather ded fore we could not get no sleep attal, We arrived at little yorke and then refreshed my selfe with a pie or tow while the inhabitants was waisting their evil halering and it is at the ful blooded union place we have sene sence we arrived at baltimore at 4 oclock and marched through.Saw plenty of niggers but no whites but soldiers. We arrived at Washington about 2 oclock and when we got in quarters for to rest we could hear the Cannon plain as could be it was just one continual roar.within 14 teen miles of us. Baggid wagons went out in one continual stream for the wounded, telagraph dispaches came in, but we could not heare the news attal."" Jonas Fuller mustered into Company A on 18 August 1862 and died at Leesburg, Virginia on 2 November 1863. Before his death, Fuller was engaged in battle at Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Peach Orchard. Letter measures 5"" x 8"". Overall foxing, otherwise excellent condition.
