Description:
A very attractive pale green glass jar descovered in Jordan and dated ca. 100 AD, the Roman Period. The jar measures 5.2 cm in height with a circumference of 13.65 cm. The vessel has a light dirt covering on the exterior and the interior. The piece has a short neck and a rolled, flaring lip. The bottom is indented and there are no cracks or chips. The jar is in excellent condition and a white marble base is provided for display purposes. The earliest true glass was excavated in Mesopotamia and is dated ca. 2500 BC. The peoples of the Roman Empire used more glass than any other ancient civilization. By the first century AD glass vessels were commonplace in the Empire. Glass for ordinary use had a pleasant blue, green or amber tinge because making clear glass was very expensive.
