Delaware Valley Area Chip Carved Mantel c1790-1810

Unavailable
To a fine and rare gouge carved folk art mantel. Constructed of soft white pine. The mantel shelf has three projections which agree with applied tablets to the frieze. Crossing the tablets are two band courses, the upper one with carved and fluted dentils and the lower course with stop flutes and snowflakes. The mantel tablets are also finely gouge carved, they have developed wheel motives with gouge spokes centered with composition flowers. The mantel jambs or legs have reeded pilasters wit moulded capitals and plinths. The mantel opening has a finely moulded trim section applied. The mantel has mahogany shelf which is a replacement for the original which was removed years ago. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1632)
