Davis & Cook Plumb Level Wood 18 inch

Offering this rare cherry wood plumb & level marked "MANUFACTURED BY DAVIS & COOK WATERTOWN N.Y. U.S.A. COOK'S LEVEL PAT. DEC. 7 86" on the nickel plated glass lens covers (2) one on each side. The other cover is marked "THIS END UP" on each side. The size is 18.0" long overall x 3.12" x 1.25". Please note that the more common Davis & Cook levels have a top plate above the adjusters, where this one has only to round nickel plated inserts (flush) at the top marked "TOP" on each, and also two same size round inserts on the bottom. Also features wrap around nickel plated end caps in good shape with about 90% nickel plating on each. The level glass and sights are in very good condition, the nickel plating overall is about 80% intact, and the finish on the wood is in good shape, looks nice. There is some wear on the wood finish like some small dings, and scratches, but no cracks in the wood or glass covers. Considering this level is over 100 years old it's well preserved, and is a rare edition of a top quality maker in upstate New York. I've never seen another one like this one is this shorter size, and doubt I ever will see another.
