One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. His wonderful collection of books has been carefully maintained. *** Danny. By Alfred Ollivant. London: John Murray, 1903. 1st British ed. 308p., dark blue, gilt spine lettering, frontispiece of Dandie Dinmont Terrier by Frances C. Fairman. Inserted in the front is a picture of a Poodle, “The Noodle”, apparently by a previous owner, Vera Vincent, dated Christmas 1903 and in the back a 3 pg. quotation from the last page of the book on monogrammed “VHV” (Vera H. Vincent?) stationary. A pleasurable bit of fiction in which a rare breed is the leading character. Tear at top of spine and extending a bit down the back gutter. Covers and edges rubbed, Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper, some foxing, but overall VG.
