Offered for sale is a beautiful porcelain demitasse set manufactured by the Porcelain Factory, Aich, Czechoslovakia some time during the late 19th C (1860's - 1880's) after Carl Anger joined the firm and began manufacturing coffee and tea sets. This set includes a tray, demitasse pot with lid, creamer, sugar with lid, 5 cups and 4 saucers. Marks used on this set include an underglaze green "Aich" within a "cloud" over "Czechoslovakia" and an overglaze blue "beehive" mark. The numbers '598/2H' are impressed on the base of the creamer. Each piece has a central medallion which is transfer decorated. Two transfer designs are used: The tray, demitasse pot, sugar and teacups all share the same transfer in various sizes. The creamer has a different, but complimentary, transfer design. Each piece of this set has similar deep red and green designs, all delicately overpainted with parcel gilt. The set is in amazingly good condition, with the obvious exception that there is either an "extra" cup, or there are (more probably) one cup and two saucers no longer part of the set. Sizes are: Tray: 18 1/2" x 9". The tray is the only piece with a rough, unglazed, bottom. The tray weighs 2 lbs. Demitasse pot: 6 1/2" H x 3" W x 6 1/2" from the edge of the handle to the edge of the spout. The pot weighs 12 oz. Creamer: 3 1/2" H x 2 3/4" W x 4 1/2" from the edge of the handle to the tip of the spout. The creamer weighs 4 1/2 oz. Sugar: 3 3/4" H x 4 3/4" from one handle edge to the other x 3 1/4" D. The sugar weighs 7 oz. Teacups: 2" H x 2 1/2" from handle edge to cup edge x 2" D. Each cup weighs 1 oz. Saucers: 4 1/4" Dia. Each saucer weighs 1 1/2 oz. Total weight for the set: 4 1/4 lbs. There are no chips, hairlines, or other damages to any piece in this set. It is exquisite!
