A fabulously faceted cut glass Biscuit Barrel that deserves to bear the makers mark from Mappin & Webb! True quality emanates from every facet of this superbly cut Biscuit Barrel. The silver rim, handle and lid are all stamped with identical hallmarks that date it to Birmingham, 1915. A stunning example of the exquisite cut glass work that was employed by the finest craftsmen of the period. Traditionally Biscuit Barrels would be be the elegant receptacle for the biscuits (similar to American crackers but sweeter) served at tea time. As the tea services became more elaborate and ritualized, more elegant the Biscuit Barrels were needed. We currently have a collection of over 100 Biscuit Barrels - ranging from the traditional cut glass versions, to ones with elaborate etched designs, rare colours and unique designs incorporated in wooden barrels.
