Offering this early patented extension divider/compass with the name "S. COPELA.. PAT. MAY.....) marked on it. The actual patent date was May 24, 1887. I found reference to this early tool in Kenneth Cope's book AMERICAN MACHINIST TOOLS, under S. COPELAND patented gage and dividers U.S.A. PAT. # 363,600. Since I can't read all of the name I matched the early advertisement in the above book showing pictures of this tool at the top of page 29. I believe this to be the later patant of the ealier patented Cooke's divider (12/12/1871)due to the marking and configuration. I wish the stamp would have been better on this tool, but I feel there's enough there to justify my price. The pointed attachment appears to be newer, but this is a fully function tool, in great shape! This tool was found in an early tool of tools used by a stair maker.
