Studio Paran is the creative partnership of Richard Jones and Mark Lorenzi. They met in the glass shop of the Rhode Island School of Design. After school they brought together their diverse skills and talents to form Studio Paran in 1987. At the very beginning, they laid the physical aesthetic foundation with a body of work that was characterized by strong design and skilled craftsmanship with a bold use of color and innovative forms. Over the years they have continued to develop the Paran line, expanding its range and scope while holding on to the hallmarks of solid design and fine craftsmanship. Studio Paran "strives to design work that is unique, affordable and relevant. The fact that our work is hand-blown is an integral part of each design, allowing the craftsman to express and explore the subtleties of form and color within a given design. Using traditional techniques to produce glass in limited amounts allows us to concentrate on imbuing each piece with the qualities of attention, grace and studied elegance. The work develops constantly and naturally through the intense concentration that the craft of glassblowing demands, resulting in objects that bear witness to the silence inherent in all things."
