Beautifully engraved certificate from the Confederate State of America issued in 1863. This historic document has an ornate border around it with a vignette of Thomas Bragg. This item is hand signed by the Register of the Treasury and is over 140 years old.
Certificate Vignette Born in Warrenton in 1810, Thomas Bragg received his education at a school in Warrenton, at a Connecticut military academy, and with a judge for the study of law. In 1842, he entered politics being elected governor in 1854. This election was the first one in which 100,000 people voted. During 1855 to 1859 when Bragg was governor, the state was experiencing prosperity as the number of banks and manufacturing plants increased and agriculture yields doubled. When Governor Bragg left office, he served in the US Senate, only to resign when North Carolina left the union
