This is an diamond shaped light blue and floral and brass cloisonne' pill box. It is from the collection of pill boxes sold by the Smithsonian Institute to honor the age old art of Cloisonne'. Cloisone' means cell or partition. The decorative technique begins with hand designed strips soldered onto a metal base. Each partition is hand painted with various colors of enamel. This art form was introduced into China from Persia and Arabia during the Yuan dynasty (1927-1386). Chinese mastered the art during the Ming dynasty. These fine examples of Cloisonne' artwork are part of the work offered by the Smithsonian Institute.
