Clock, Tall Case, Mahogony,English, 18th C., signed "Taylor"

Unavailable
An English, 18th C., tall case clock. Case made of mahogany; movement signed "Taylor, King St., Wt. Haven." c.1760-1780. The case is of rich architectural form, of finest color and patina, with stop fluting to the waist and trunk. The separate bonnet is above a course of dentilation and blind filigree fretwork. This matches the work to the pediment, which is backed by green cloth, moon dial is ornamental only, and never worked. The clock retains the original carved rosettes and shows no evidence of ever having had finials. The brass dial is richly engraved and mounted with cast spandrels. The clock retains the original steel fretted hands and has a date of the month dial below the maker's name. Above the dial is a fixed half round moon dial which is original and was not meant to turn. The movement is of fine construction and mounted on the original seat board. It strikes the hours on a bell. The case door and trunk panel are mounted with rich crotch mahogany and the case retains a grand patina.
