Tastevin wine master tasting cup made of silver by Christofle, France. The tastevin or wine taster is a very old tool. Although it seems very fussy and showy, especially when worn on a chain by a restaurant sommeilier, it is practical if not essential to judging wine.
The shape, with its facets and divets, floods the wine with light for the most accurate judging of its color. The wide shape earates the liquor for proper evaluation of the bouquet. This example is in the traditional form developed in Burgundy.
Stamped Christofle France with hallmark on handle as shown in photo.
Measures 4-1/8 inches overall width, bowl is 3 inches diameter, 1 -1/8 high.
Very good used condition, No dings, dents or repairs. Only some very mild scratching from use. Needs to be polished.
Circa 20th C
Made in France
