This solid mahogany Chippendale style highboy is labeled W.A. Hathaway, NY. The full bonnet has an arched top with 3 carved tall flame finials and bold cornice mouldings. The highboy is made of 2 separate pieces. The top chest has three small drawers over 4 long drawers which graduate in height. The small center drawer has a carved shell design. All the long drawers have their original working locks and a key. The highboy base has 2 drawers over 3 smaller drawers with the center one repeating the shell carving. All the drawers have their original cast brass Chippendale pulls. Notice the shapely skirt at the bottom of the highboys base. The chest rests on tall, elegantly shaped legs with boldly carved ball & claw feet. The finish is original and in excellent condition having a deep rich color and warm patina. The highboy has wonderful proportions and would make a statement in any bedroom.
