Chinese Antique Low Square or Coffee Table

Unavailable
Oriental Coffee Table Antique (Chinese Antique Low Square or Coffee Table). This antique Chinese low table has only been cleaned, so the top has a "matte" or rustic appearance and dark patina. Part of its beauty is that with all of its ‘character’ marks, aged finish, and knife marks on the table's top-it retains an integral dignity and elegance. Note the extra diagonal corner spandrel, one is missing. It has an unique and rare tenon form.

The Chinese sellers believed that this table was a kang table, but it may have instead been crafted as an eight immortals’ table-a full height table. An Eight-Immortal Table is a big square table with four equal sides, with each side having a bench for two people. Thus the table could accommodate a total of eight people, hence the name. This table is simply structured and economically made and is very practical today as a coffee table. The square shape and stable structure endears the table to all people, giving a peaceful feel. There is a stretcher between each of the rounded legs. Antique Asian Furniture & Furnishings: Chinese Antique Low Square or Coffee Table from China.
