Antique Kangxi Chinese Chairs (Chinese Antique Arm Chair with Black Lacquer). This pair of 18th century chairs, were crafted during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It is an exciting rare event to find a matching pair of chairs this old and this exquisite.

The sit rather well and are strong enough for everyday use. The chairs are crafted from elm wood, and being crafted during the 1700's, elm wood was still very dense at that time. Of special note is the original red lacquer still visible on the arm rest's middle beaded molding. Some other notable features include: turned spindles under the arms, pipe joints, original black lacquered finish, an ogival shaped cut out on the back splat, beaded molding on arm rests and a wonderful scalloped opening between the front legs and a foot rest, two stretchers between the side legs and one stretcher between the back legs. The back support and the tapered legs are rounded. The matting on the seat has been replaced to resemble the original matted seat. The seat height is 21 inches (53.5cm).
