A most unusual and beautiful Italian rosewood and walnut chest,desk or secretary with multi-tone scalloped marble top in perfect condition which is signed on the back of the marble by the creator of this piece, "Suasso B. Gitre". The top drawer opens to two small drawers and eight pigeon holes and when the drawer front is unhooked with a tiny brass button either side,provides the writing surface. If the drawer front is not unlatched there is ample storage space in addition to the small drawers and pigeon holes to use as a chest with three drawers,this one just slightly less depth with secretary interior. Interior of this area is in lighter wood. The other two drawers offer abundant deep storage. Stunning scalloped design on the perimeter of each drawer outling the lighter and darker tones of the interior design. Sits on cabriole legs with original brass ornate handles. Sides of the secretary flare out and back to the wall making the back width wider than the front. In superior condition. Measures 36H X 46L X 20D.
