Cherub Putti Bacchanale Oil Painting by Franz Lefler

Unavailable
This delightful Bacchanale themed oil on canvas in the Flemish Baroque style by Franz Lefler (Langenbrück 1831-1898 Weißenbach) depicts dancing cherubs trailing red vine garlands, and appears to have been inspired by Cherubs with Garland, the famous work of Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) which resides in the Alte Pinakothek museum in Munich Germany. Stretcher measures 19" by 38.5" and the frame measures 25" by 44.5". Lefler was born in Long Bruck, Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) and studied at the Academies of Fine Art in Vienna and Prague. He is known primarily as a painter of allegories, historical scenes and genres, and his works periodically appear at major auction in Europe and the U.S. Today he is fondly known as one of the favorite nineteenth century painters of putti, and a number of his original paintings are commonly reproduced in print form. This item resides on the Upper East Side of Manhattan ( New York City ) and may be seen by appointment. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( hantiques )
