This aluminum sculpture by Israeli-born artist, Menashe Kadishman (1932-2015) is entitled Checkpoint (In Suspense) and is from a limited edition of six. Signed "M Kadishman 6/6 1972".  Dimensions: 10.5" H X 21" W X 4.25" D (26.7cm H X 53.3cm W X 10.8cm D).

Large versions of this sculpture reside in the collections at the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg, and the Storm King Art Center in Mountainville NY.  Kadishman studied with the important Israeli sculptors Moshe Sternschuss and Rudi Lehmann in the early 1950s.  From 1959-1960 he studied at the St. Martin's School in London where he embraced minimalist sculpture.  After studying with Anthony Caro, Kadishman became an internationally known neo-constructivist and minimalist sculptor. This particular work exhibits a common theme, the defiance of gravity, and geometric forms.
