Pretty plate, early Victorian period, circa 1840. The maker is Charles Meigh (in the Staffordshire Potteries). It has a printed mark for the design name "Poonah" and the maker's mark of C.M. It also has a faint printed mark :Porcelain Opaque" and a third faint printed mark: a pseudo Eastern seal mark, also used by Meigh.  Gilding to rim and scrolls around rim, and as outlines to the leaves and stalks in cobalt blue. Plate measures 23.5 cm diameter (9.1/4 inches). It has some clean crazing to the face, and some more noticeable crazing to the rear. There are two minor very fine tight hairlines on the rim section at the rear - they don't show on the front. Overall very good original condition. Pretty chrysanthemums with butterflies in the Oriental fashion.
