Catalan Style Draw Leaf Table from Spain of European Oak
Antique draw leaf tables are wonderful space savers in smaller rooms because their expandable leaves can be hidden when not needed for extra dining surface space. This Catalan Style draw leaf table from Spain has ornamentation of straight lines on the top softened with curving motifs beneath the top. We believe it is from the early to mid 1900s.
The thick rectangular top and leaves have been made with plain planks and a plain surround. To offset the simplicity of this, the apron, legs and stretchers are purposely more curvilinear in their ornamentation. The apron has hand carved motifs of mascarons at the center with scrolling rinceau to either side. There are beautiful, thick, pierced, hand forged, curving iron stretchers connecting the two stylized lyre shaped, reeded legs and four feet.
Condition: Recently refinished and waxed, minor nicks and rubs to wood.
