This is a Regency hallmarked antique English hallmarked sterling silver calling card case. The repousse foliage design on one side is of Abbotsford House, Melrose, Scotland home of Sir Walter Scott with Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire, England home of Lord Byron on the reverse. The case weighs 2.865 ounces or 52.4 dwt or 81.4 grams of silver and is marked with the lion for sterling, William IV's head, date letter for 1835 and the anchor for Birmingham, England which is 2 years before Queen Victoria ascended to the throne in what is referred to as the Regency period. The maker's mark is T and P for Taylor and Parry, a well known maker of exceptional quality small silver items during the second quarter of the 19th century. The card case measures just over 3.75 inches high by 2.5 inches wide by .5 inches deep and the sides are undecorated. The design is fabulous even to the ducks and man rowing in the lake. The lid hinge works well, the only flaw is a pinhead dent in the lid top. The case is truly a work of art and an example of the skill of early 19th century English silversmiths.
