Trivets like this that come up on a Google search appear to be painted. This one is definitely "in the rough" like one would expect from many years of use and display. Featured are cannons, cannonballs, swords, and a shield. There is rust, but for the sake of the "look," I have left it untouched. There is a small hole just above the row of 4 cannonballs, and a hairline crack on the left-hand side about 2/3 of the way up (hard to find).
