Antique Chinese Gate Bench (Carved Chinese Antique Gate Bench). A gate bench was specifically crafted and designed to be placed at the entrance to a home, near the gate. This antique Chinese carved bench is an excellent example of a gate bench. This narrow, single plank top, bench features rounded legs splayed in an "A" frame with two stretchers, an apron and spandrels with carved beaded edges and a pillowed surface in the form of ruyi - clouds. The top surface is double tenoned. The original lacquer has oxidized to a reveal a warm dark brown patina.
