A good clean copy of "Cambridge : As it was and As it is today", by John Steegmann, published by B.T. Batsford as a volume of their "British Cities" series in 1949. A fine book, divided into two parts. In the first, the history of the University and Town are traced through Medieval, Reformation, Georgian and Victorian times; while in the second, the surviving buildings and institutions of each period are examined and criticised. Crammed with illustrations, some 130 in all, taken from old prints and engravings and from modern photographs. Hard covers, 120 pages, original dust jacket, now somewhat untidy. Ref. CJS/A6.
