Callender's Famous Georgia Minstrels Broadside C. 1882 The Georgia Minstrels were formed by former slave Charles "Barney" Hicks (1840-1902) in 1865. The minstrel company was the first to successfully take this indigenous form of American entertainment to theaters around the world.
