C. 1770 CHINESE EXPORT PAIR AMERICAN MARKET PLATES

Circa 1834 Chinese Export American Market Pair of Plates measuring 7 3/4" in Diameter. This pair of plates are shown in Schiffer's China for America,Page 177. The actual plates are shown as part of a Tea Service in the top photograph in this listing. Rockland Mansion was built by Georege Thompson in 1810 on land overlooking the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. After several owners in the intervening years, the house and twenty-six acres were sold to isaac Cooper Jones in 1834 and remained in this family's possessioin until it was purchased by the City of Philadelphia in 1869. This Small Tea Service has sepia and gold decoration showing a liberal view of Rockland and the initials "HEJ". The Service was made after 1834 For Issac C. Jones' daughter, Hanna Elizabeth Jones, who was born in 1812. These plates are of Great Historical value. These plates have some wear to the gilding on the rim. Other than that they are in Excellent Condition. Both plates have the identical scene with one of th plates having some wear and the other plate with no wear.
