The category "kitchen item" doesn't seem to fit this butter dish. This is an old butter dish from an estate sale. It is in perfect condition, but I have made no attempt to clean it. The glass insert is intact with no chips or cracks. When opened the top goes under and out of sight, leaving the butter dish exposed. It's a lovely piece of yesterday.
