Butler's Desk, Chest of Drawers, Dresser
- Item Not Available
This Cherry and tiger maple Empire chest of drawers has a butler's desk interior. By opening and pressing two interior buttons, the top drawer is designed to fold down as a writing surface. There is a felt covering the writing surface and is framed in tiger maple. In addition, inside are 8, small, finely dovetailed drawers and one long hand dovetailed drawer with 5 cubbies. All of these have tiger maple fronts and are quite dramatic when the top drawer is opened. The glass knobs are original. Below are 3 drawers with hand dovetailing and chamfered bottoms. Notice the tiger maple banding on the top drawer and continued use of tiger maple on the other three. The figuring is quite strong and impressive to view. All the drawers contain their original working locks and knobs. On the sides of the drawers are cherry 1/2 turned columns resting on tall turned cherry feet. The top and recessed paneled sides are made of maple. The finish appears original and is in excellent condition. The drawers all work well. There is a seam separation on the top, but does not distract from the overall impact of this piece. The use of 3 desirable wood types and the uniqueness and detail of the butler desk interior make this piece a show stopper.
