Early American Pressed Glass can be one of the most elusive topics to research, particularly since there is often so little historical record left behind. We sell glassware on occassion, and are most pleased to present this book, which we have found useful in identification of our own wares.
It was surprising to me to look through the photos and realize how many pieces we have made by this company!
This is an in-depth look at how history ties together the Bryce Brothers companies of Pittsburgh (18501965) with the lesser-known J. B. Higbee Glass Company of Bridgeville, PA (19071918).
Authors Lola and Wayne Higby, descendants of both the Bryce and Higbee families, delve into these factories' history in an attempt to show the differences between Bryce an Higbee wares. Many collectors and historians have traditionally confused the different firms.
A complete listing of Bryce Brothers patterns is included, as well as a similar list for Higbee patterns, carefully distinguishing between original wares and reproductions. A necessary resource for the collector of 19th and early 20th-century pressed glass. Includes catalog ad reprints, over 600 items shown in color.
