Bronze Sculpture of Mother & Child Irene Hamar Mid-20C
Description: American Bronze Sculpture of Kneeling Mother Cradling a Baby, 1940s-1960s, by Irene Hamar (d. 1973). The stylized figurative piece reflects the influence of Arp and Brancusi. "Hamar" signed on back. Irene Hamar was a sculptor and painter in New York. She was born in Brazil and had one-man shows at many galleries, including Acquavella Galleries and Wildenstein & Co.

Weight: 2-1/2 lbs Condition: The bronze is in very good condition and has a rich brown patina. There are some nicks and scuffs, most noticeably on the top of the head and on the legs, and some oxidation. Otherwise a nice piece by a forgotten postwar New York artist.
