A 19th century trivet stand, made of iron with a shaped brass top - designed to slot over the iron fender of a Victorian or Georgian fire grate, it was for keeping pots or kettles warm near the fire. It has a wooden (oak) handle so it could be picked up without burning the hand. Measures 36cm (14 inches) long including the handle, and 17cm (6.3/4 inches wide at its widest point. It is 13cm (5 inches)high. Basically in very good condition, with a chip off the wooden handle (actually it is charred away). The iron base is a bit rough feeling, but is solid and complete, with hammered rivet construction A lovely item from the days of tea in front of the fire!
