Brass and iron, circa 1820, in very good original condition, with several minor dents, polished, not lacquered, these andirons are unusual in that they are not supported on a pair of opposed cabriole legs. This type of pedestal appears to be unique to andirons made in the Boston area, occurring on andirons marked William Hunneman, John Davis, John & Henry Noyes and most often John Molineux. Their popularity was short lived, lasting only through the early Nineteenth Century. They were also very high quality and correspondingly expensive at the time and are therefore quite rare. For a nearly identical pair marked Hunneman, see pg 284 of "The American Fireplace" by Henry J. Kauffman. For a related pair marked "Molineux" also available on our website, go to item # 3112211TB. 12"H. X 8" W. x 22-1/2" D. We have many other pairs of period brass andirons that are not yet displayed on our website. Please call to inquire. We accept time payments and quantity discounts. ** WE GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF OUR MERCHANDISE AS REPRESENTED.
