Boors At Cards by David Teniers (1610 – 1690) was drawn by Josiah Boydell (1750 -1817), nephew of John Boydell, and engraved by esteemed French engraver, Jean Baptiste Michele for the Houghton Gallery Series collection. A stipple and line engraver, Jean Baptiste Michel, studied art under Chenu (1718/1730 – 1800) in Paris and established his reputation in his native France before moving to London around 1780. The Boors At Cards engraving was published by the eminent English publisher, John Boydell (1719 – 1804), in Cheapside London , December 1, 1778. This was one of at least thirty-six plates that Michele engraved for Boydell. The Boors At Cards engraving has a vellum covering and measures, 18.00” H X 13.50” W, with the image size of, 14.25” H X 10.25” W.
