This is an American version of blue and white Dutch delft. The image is of a house on the edge of a bay with sailboats in the background. Made on a thick, heavy red faience clay, it is a substantial tile at over 1/2 inch thick. Made by the Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville Ohio. The company advertised this clay body as frost proof and suitable for outdoors.
The tile had been installed but the mortar has been meticulously removed. There are no chips or cracks.
