Bizarre Vintage Lovers EYE sentimental Memorial Raised relief LOCKET Sash PIn brooch

Unavailable

From the Georgian period to later, it was a bit of a mystery as to why eyes were painted or portrayed on jewelry. Some say it was to keep a lover's identity a bit of a secret by not revealing the whole face. Others say it was to keep the eye to the soul of ones loved one close at heart. In an case this is a most unusual brooch with the eye rising out of the center of this long ( 3 1/3”) sash pin or brooch. Notice the intricate detail of the brown iris of the eye. Set on top of a book locket this is most appropriate if you consider that many secrets are kept in a diary and close at hand. This locket is 1 1/4” wide and made in layers of etched and relief gilt metal. Inside are two places for photos. One has an old photo of a most handsome sailor and the other empty and possibly waiting for a lock of hair. This brooch with its hidden secret is quite the conversation starter and it looks, with its rich aged patina of gold and green, to have been plucked out of a garden of mystery and intrigue. Made from vintage parts this in great condition. We offer Layaway on all our pieces regardless of which site it comes from. Please remember that vintage & antique items are not mint, nor are they perfect but they sure are full of old history and charm. Please use photos to make your decisions.
