This is a nice, clean, straight adjustable wrench marked, "BILLING & SPENCER CO. HARTFORD CONN. 97" on the one side of the moving jaw, and "PATENTED SEPT. 29, 1896" on the other side of the slide bar. This wrench was made around 1900. This one is 4" long, it is straight, has a straight handle, the jaws align nicely, and the adjustment is in good working order. There is minor wear and pitting noted, some tiny dings, and the owner's intials VC noted. The jaw edges show very minor wear. A very collectible small adjustable wrench, one of the few I've seen with the patent date on it!
