This is a sword for an officer of the cuirassier guards of Leopold II of Belgium. This is a beautiful example of the type of sword known as the 19th century cuirassier "palash". The blade is engraved on one side with "L II" with the crown above. The sword is signed by the famous Belgian sword maker "G. Maillard - Bruxelles". The grip is made of horn and the brass guard is beautifully decorated. The scabbard is made of iron. The blade is approximately 35 1/2 inches (90 cm) long. Entire length; 42 inches (106,5 cm).
