The Bassa from the central coast and adjacent interior of Liberia are one of the largest of the Kru speaking peoples. Their art is highly influenced by their Dan and Kpelle neighbors. This is an example of one of their famed carvers work known as the gela mask, which was worn by the no mens society during festivities including the return of recently initiated boys from bush camp.
