A. Bacherini Italian Marble Statue of Exotic Dancer with Timbrel
This is a tremendous Italian sculpture in Carrara marble depicts a maiden in classical dress, dancing and playing the timbrel (tambourine) with palm leaves at her feet. Signed A. Bacherini Firenze 1897. Height is approximately 48 in (122 cm). Little is known of this master, but his works periodicaly appear at major auction. A notable recent occurred at Sotheby's in New York on June 6, 2014 in their sale of 19th Century Furniture and Decorative Art, when a marble sculpture by Bacherini depicting Beatrice, 50 in, 157 cm, was offered in lot 164 with an estimate of $30,000-$50,000 and sold for $37,500. His works are also signed Prof. (professor) Bacherini. Notable contemporaries of his in Florence included Pietro Bazzanti, Ferdinando Vichi, Raffaello Romanelli, Prof. Aristide Petrilli, Prof. Antonio Frilli, among others.
