Antique Asian Chair (Asian Style Arm Chair). A pair of excellent Chinese antique chairs. Often referred to as "official's chairs" because of their elaborate and regal design and because a person who would have the resources and position to occupy such a chair must have been an official. The back yoke has three carved panels but each chair has a differently carved scenes. There are carved spandrels on the outer side of the top rail. The arm rests are curved both vertically and horizontally. There are two stretchers between the side legs and a rounded stretcher between the back legs. While the foot rest is simple, the interior apron on the front side is elaborately carved; however, there are a few missing pieces of the carving. The apron on the sides is also simple. These arm chairs has been restored but not finished, although Tung oil has been applied, and the lacquer patina is very nice. They are very comfortable. The seat height is 20.25 inches (51.5cm).
