This massive and magnificent Arts & Crafts era Mission Oak wine cabinet may quite possibly be one of a kind. Although the provenance of this cabinet is unknown, it is said to have come from the Napa Valley in California, has been in dry storage for many years and has never been subject to water, insect, fire or mildew damage. There is a factory- drilled bolthole at each corner of the interior floor deck, apparently to secure the cabinet to the floor in the event of earthquakes.
The cabinet dates to around 1900 and is solidly constructed of the finest quarter-sawn white oak solids and veneers. It has 6 adjustable interior shelves, 7 exterior raised panels, and 2 solid brass decorative-twist screened doors. It contains all of its original copper patinated solid brass hardware - hinges, locks and screens. Although the cabinet has locking doors (no key) the copper plated brass hasp also appears to be factory.
Measures 54" Long, 36" deep and 40 ½" tall. The shelves are 44" long x 31" deep. Weight is estimated at 350 pounds. We have added 4 concealed nylon ball casters to make it easy to move around our shop and to clean under without damaging the floor surface. These casters can be either temporary or permanent. This is the only modification to the cabinet.
The fine Craftsman cabinet is in superb condition. We have removed 100 years of grime from the surfaces and have done a light cosmetic refinish, preserving all of the original patina. We have detected an old but very tight 2" repair to the bottom face of the front left door at the lower mortise lock. There also appears to be a nearly indistinguishable 1" x 5" patch to the veneer on one of the raised panels - probably a factory repair when new. This patch is barely perceptible (if perceptible at all) but we mention it anyway.
There is a small factory filled knot-hole in the top, and there is a 3" section of beading missing on the back section, which neither detracts from the value or character of the piece. When I am 100+ years old, I will probably have a couple of dings too. Aside from that the cabinet is pristine and an extremely rare showcase for your fine wine collection.
