Art Nouveau Mettlach Stoneware Charger

This lovely Villeroy & Boch Mettlach stoneware charger plate from the art nouveau age, circa 1900, is signed by the artist L Chevroton. Matte glaze. Measures 18" across and 2" high. Weighs an estimated 2-4 lbs. It depicts a maiden with long flowing hair surrounded by lillies. Carries the impressed abbey mark and " METTLACH " mark with " VB " beneath. Numeric impressed mark " 2549 " (form or style number). The " Gegen Nachbildung Geschützt " impressed mark translates to " Protected Against Copy (Imitation) ". Condition is excellent. Surface is clean for its age. Some wear to the gold finish along the edge. No chips, visible cracks or repairs. Original holes in footed base allow for hanging. This item resides in our client's place in Larchmont NY and may be seen in person by appointment.
