This is a wonderful Art Deco period 14k yellow gold match safe with blue sapphire, c. 1920. The match safe is European in origin and has an engine-turned design on both sides. The safe measures 2" (not including bail and jumpring) x 1 1/2" and is 1/4" deep and weighs 23.1 grams. It is marked "585" (European mark for 14k gold) and bears a maker's mark (see last photo) of a small "B", "VA" superimposed and then a symbol that is unidentifiable. Condition is excellent with a couple of tiny shallow indentations if you look for them. The safe has a jumpring and is made to be worn on a chain or chatelaine.
